daGeek

On daGeek users obsess about things they passionately love or hate. They find their “twins” – people who share their uniqueness – and use them to discover: paintings, movies, music, books, hotels, restaurants, travel spots.. the list goes on.

daGeek is equally about content discovery and the matching of people for fun and relationships.

daGeek is the successor of a website called Tellmetwin.

In fall 2007 Tellmetwin was founded and a year later it went live on the web.

In April 2009 Tellmetwin won the prestigious Red Herring Award as a Top 100 European Technology Company.

In Spring 2010 the name was changed to daGeek and a new and improved version of the website was released. The core concept was still the same, only the outer focus was shifted. This time people were encouraged more than ever to use daGeek as a platform to express their eccentricity and embrace their geek-ism – to us, these are the really interesting people.

Red Herring Top 100 Award

Reykjavik, Iceland, April 15 2009 – TellmeTwin.com, daGeek\'s predecessors, a people matching and recommendations website, today announced that it was named a WINNER of the Red Herring 100 Europe, an award given to the top 100 private technology companies based in the EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) region each year. \"During a difficult year, Red Herring still received an impressive list of submissions from companies across the EMEA region, clearly demonstrating Europe’s role as a major center of innovation in the global technology sector,” said Red Herring Managing Director, Farley Duvall. “The exceptional accomplishments of European technology startups and entrepreneurs are a testament to the rapid advancements being made in building the European innovation ecosystem.” Red Herring’s lists of top private companies are an important part of the publication’s tradition of identifying new and innovative technology companies and entrepreneurs. Companies like Google, eBay, and Skype were spotted in their early days by Red Herring editors, and touted as leaders that would change the way we live and work. A recognition such as the Red Herring 100 is very important to TellmeTwin and confirms our commitment to really make a difference in the world of social networks and recommendations solutions,” said Einar Sigvaldason, CEO of TellmeTwin. “TellmeTwin is qualitative recommendation network where users discover content based on how well they match with other people. You can also think of it as a hybrid that utilizes data mining and human interaction. Red Herring’s editorial staff rigorously evaluated several hundred private companies through a careful analysis of financial data and subjective criteria, including quality of management, execution of strategy, and dedication to research and development. Red Herring has honored the Red Herring 100 Europe Finalist companies at its Red Herring Europe 2009 Conference, which was held March 31- April 2, at the Berlin Radisson Hotel.
