How I Met Your Mother
How I Met Your Mother is a comedy about Ted and how he fell in love. It all started when Ted's best friend, Marshall, dropped the bombshell that he was going to propose to his longtime girlfriend, Lily, a kindergarten teacher. At that moment, Ted realized that he had better get a move on if he, too, hopes to find true love. Helping him in his quest is his friend Barney, a confirmed bachelor with endless, sometimes outrageous opinions, a penchant for suits and a foolproof way to meet women. When Ted meets Robin, he's sure it's love at first sight, but destiny has something else in store.

How I Met Your Mother is an American TV-show that first began in 2005 and is currently on its fifth series. There aren't a lot of great TV-shows out there at the moment, and since Friends ended there has been a bit of a gap in the market. However in my opinion HIMYM fills that gap with a funny, original, charming show that is far better than pretty much every other TV-show or comedy drama out there. The show focuses on Ted, played by the Josh Radnor.
Ted is in his late twenties and lives with his newly engaged friends Lily and Marshall. Their engagement makes Ted realise that he also wants to settle down and fall in love. But how will he find the perfect woman to do that with? The show uses a framing device of a much older Ted (voiced by Bob Saget) telling his two teenage children exactly how he met that woman - and how she became their mother.
Although Ted is the main character and his attempts to find the woman of his dreams are supposedly the central story to the show, his friends get just as much airtime and they are all hilarious. Lily is played by Alyson Hannigan, nice and comfortable character. Her future husband Marshall is played by Jason Segel (I love you man, Forgetting Sarah Marshall).
Also featured heavily in the show is Barney Stinson, who seems to be most people's favourite character. Played by Neil Patrick Harris, he is outrageously funny and very smart based on the things he comes up with. Barney is a complete player and does not treat women well, but he is good to his friends (mostly!) and does have some real feelings, which we occasionally see. His catchphrases have become legen....wait for it....dary!
Finally we have Robin, who Ted meets in the first episode and falls head over heels for, played by Cobie Smulders. Robin is independent and always anti-marriage and anti-commitment. Of course, in any normal TV-show she would eventually change her mind and end up married to Ted. But HIMYM is definitely not a normal TV-show , and in the very first episode Ted reveals to his children that Robin is....their Aunt Robin. So the question remains - who is their mother?
